Nunez_compBorn in El Paso, Texas, moved into Rosemead area in 1958. Has been active in the Rosemead community for more than three decades. John Nuñez is currently serving his first term on the Rosemead City Council. He was elected on March 8, 2005 and at the Council Meeting on March 28, 2005 he was elected as Mayor Pro Tem. Prior to his election, he served on the Garvey School District Board of Education from 1981-1985 and again from 1993 to 2002. He was also elected to the Alhambra Unified School Board in 2002 and served over two years as President, Vice President and Clerk of the Board. In 1996 he was elected to the County Committee on School District Organization, where he served as Chairman and also served on their Policy and Nominations Committee. In 2000 he was elected as a member of the California School Board Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly for Region 23-A, and in 2003 Mr. Nunez was appointed to the National School Board Association (NSBA) Federal Government Relations Committee, where he served as Chairman for the 31st Congressional District. Mr. Nuñez has also served on the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association, the Mexican-American School Board Association, the Garvey School District School Advisory Committee, the Garvey Council PTA, and has been involved with the Rosemead Rebels, Junior All-American Football League and the Rosemead Little League. Mr. Nuñez completed coursework for the CSBA Certificates for Master in Boardsmanship. He was the recipient of the PTA Honorary Service Award twice, and was also the recipient of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Golden Apple Award. He served in the U.S. Army (Airborne Infantry) from August 1969 to 1971 and graduated from Mark Keppel High School and attended schools in the Garvey School District. John has lived in Rosemead for over 38 years and has three children and three grandchildren.
